Advanced Manufacturing
In The Central Carolina region, Advanced Manufacturing is an established but transforming industry cluster with employment that is two times more concentrated in the region than nationally. Advanced Manufacturing is an excellent economic-development opportunity for the Central Carolina region.
During the 1990s, employment, value-added, and wages all increased. Despite mounting pressures to relocate to low-cost locations overseas, regional industry executives reveal a strong desire to remain in the region. The challenge for the cluster will be to leverage its workforce and other assets to produce high-value, high-margin goods while reducing costs and time to market.
The Center for Manufacturing and Technology (CMAT) is designed to promote economic development in the state of South Carolina by providing valuable technological, workplace, business solutions, consultation and training to SC manufacturers utilizing the expertise of faculty, students, staff and university facilities at a cost savings to the manufacturer that expands their operational effectiveness.
