Golden State Foods Breaks Ground for 31,000 square-foot expansion
2.21.2008
Golden State Foods (GSF) company executives, along with other local business and community leaders, wore hardhats and carried commemorative silver shovels as they broke ground to launch a 31,000 square-foot expansion of the GSF Distribution center in Lexington, S.C. The project will enable GSF to accommodate growing Distribution demands throughout the Southeast.
The groundbreaking ceremony featured comments about the expanding GSF Distribution center from Mark Wetterau, chairman and CEO, GSF; Tim Heskett, vice president Distribution - East and Lexington general manager, GSF; Dave Logsdon, SC state chief operating officer; William “Billy” Derrick, Lexington County Council and Mayor Randy Halfacre, City of Lexington.
“To see our vision of the future of Southeast Distribution come to reality is truly exciting!” explains Tim Heskett. “The efforts of our leadership team to develop and implement the best solution for McDonald’s Distribution are a tribute to their commitment to strategic leadership that will create long term value to the system. The daily business performance demonstrated by all our associates promotes a culture to continually improve, and demonstrates alignment and collaboration with our stakeholders.”
"This expansion in Lexington will allow us to provide new and expanded services to our customer,” adds Bob Jorge, senior vice president and president of Distribution, GSF. “We've been servicing McDonald's in this market for just about 20 years. This project is a direct reflection of the success of this market for McDonald's over that time. We're excited about the opportunity to continue to grow with them over the next 20 years."
Scheduled for completion by November 2008, the improved Distribution center will enable Golden State Foods to serve more than 450 restaurants in the region. The center will employ state-of-the-art technology, a new design and rail access to prepare GSF for future growth. The 31,000 square-foot expansion will increase the facility’s size to 100,000 square feet. The facility has been in operation since September 1989.
