Airports
We’re connected by the space between us.
Central South Carolina is home to 11 regional airports, several private airfields and the Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE), which recently underwent a $50 million renovation and expansion. Located one mile from I-26, CAE’s passenger air service is provided by nine scheduled airlines, with commercial cargo service handled by all scheduled passenger airlines and six freight operators. Two fix-based operators also serve the airport facility with various charter flights.
Several international airports are within an hour’s drive from the region, including Charlotte Douglas International (CLT), Greenville/Spartanburg International (GSP), Charleston International (CHS) and Myrtle Beach International (MYR).
Highways
The roads most often traveled.
Columbia is nationally ranked among the top five cities for the number of intersecting interstate highways and is the only Southeastern city that has direct access by three interstates and indirect access by two additional interstates within 100 miles.
Ports
Efficient access to a secure supply chain.
Located less than two hours away from the Central South Carolina region is the Port of Charleston, the largest container port on the U.S. Southeast and Gulf coasts. It is the 4th largest in the United States for cargo value and one of only a handful of ports to have received the Presidential "E" and "E-Star" awards for excellence in exporting.
Railroads
Moving freight for the state’s vital industries.
Rail service within the region is provided by two carriers, CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern. Passenger rail service is provided by Amtrak.
