Life in Central SC
When it comes to quality of life, the Central SC Region has much to offer. From a low cost of living, to a moderate climate to high-quality healthcare, the Region is an ideal place to work and live.
For the avid boater and water sports enthusiast we have Lake Murray, a 50,000-acre lake located just minutes northwest of Columbia, as well as Lake Thurmond, a 70,000-acre reservoir nestled on the Savannah River, 22 miles above Augusta. The area also has three major rivers, the Saluda, Broad, and Congaree, converging in the Columbia area for those of you who like to canoe, kayak, or just enjoy the scenery.
Outstanding spectator sports such as University of South Carolina Gamecocks, Benedict Tigers, South Carolina State Bulldogs, Newberry Indians, and the Capital City Bombers - Class A pro baseball, and Columbia Inferno ice hockey offer year-round entertainment.
Or if you want to take a more active part in sports, check out our terrific park systems, which offer a great variety in league play, recreational activities, and lessons. Sports and recreation are such a part of our lifestyle here in the region, that we now have a regional sports council. The Columbia Regional Sports Council is actively seeking large sporting events for the metropolitan area. The region has excellent venues like the newly completed 21 court tennis complex with a center court amphitheater.
