Innovista
Located in Columbia, SC and a short walk from The University of South Carolina’s beautiful 200-year-old campus; Innovista integrates public and private sector research in high-tech, high-density facilities. With Innovista, the University of South Carolina has reinvented the notion of how and where researchers will live and work—in the process creating a destination for innovation, creativity, entertainment, culture, and more. The new University of South Carolina Gamecock baseball stadium is located on the edge of Innovista, with a scoreboard partially hydrogen fuel powered. Nearby are a mix of new restaurants, residences, retail, and green spaces for recreation; future development includes a world-class Waterfront Park.
Innovista represents the physical manifestation of the University of South Carolina’s longtime research philosophy of nurturing innovation, creativity, discovery, and opportunity. The Carnegie Foundation has designated South Carolina as an institution of “very high research activity,” its highest distinction given to only 62 public research institutions. Signature research areas—facilitated by the Office of Research and Health Sciences—include hydrogen fuel cells and other alternative energies, health sciences, nanotechnology, environmental sciences, and software and technology to support the knowledge economy.
