COLUMBIA, S.C. | CENTRAL SC ALLIANCE (March 25, 2021) - Technical doesn't always have to mean complicated. When it comes to training workers for jobs of the future, the institutions of the South Carolina Technical College System have perfected the skill of educating students for the future.
Over this past week during SC Technical College Week (#SCTechnicalCollegeWeek, #SCTechWeek), our statewide technical college system and its colleges have celebrated the benefits, accomplishments and community impact created by and in collaboration with its schools and supporting programs. It's a network that's crucial to the development of skilled workers for current and future jobs, and it's been paramount in helping the existing industries and people of the Central SC Region in making monumental gains through customizable and progressive training opportunities. In support of SC Technical College Week, we toss our hats up to the technical colleges within our Region.
Midlands Technical College - The largest technical network in the Midlands area, MTC has seven locations within our Region spanning Lexington, Fairfield and Richland counties. Together, these facilities serve in excess of 9,000 students every year and offer more than 100 educational programs. MTC also offers up specialty shops and facilities to support the needs of growing businesses, like the Center for Excellence for Technology (CET), HAAS Shop Floor, Business Accelerator and MTC Enterprise Campus.

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College - Located in Orangeburg County, OC Tech is growing its reputation with innovative new offerings. Serving up more than 60 academic programs, including training for careers in mechatronics, technology, engineering and healthcare, the college recently opened a new, state-of-the-art nursing school and has been ranked among the best nursing programs in the state. This year, OC Tech partnered with the county school district to launch the Orangeburg Advanced College aimed at helping high schoolers get a step ahead in their secondary education plans.
Piedmont Technical College - First welcoming students in Newberry County in 1996, Piedmont Technical College opened the doors to a new campus in 2013. Now serving over 700 credit students, PTC provides credit and continuing education opportunities in areas like mechatronics, health care and business. Adding to its growing list of opportunities, this year the college launched the first-of-its-kind COVID-19 Contact Tracing course available in South Carolina.

Central Carolina Technical College - Rounding out our technical network with two regional locations is Central Carolina Technical College. CCTC's Clarendon County facility offers a mix of credit and continuing education courses, and its Kershaw County location helps prepare students for careers in engineering and mechatronics. Partnering with the Kershaw County School District, training opportunities with CCTC go beyond the college classroom at the Woolard Technology Center where students are learning the skills they need for in-demand employment opportunities.

Through the SC Technical College System, there is even more opportunity. Programs like Apprenticeship Carolina and readySC are serving thousands of students and local companies every year to bridge the gap in skilled-labor needs with specialized training. These programs work with qualified companies to supply and aid in the training of workers, and have set the benchmark for other programs around the nation and inspired other successful training programs in the state.
