January 14, 2025

COLUMBIA, S.C. (January 14, 2025) - PHENOGY AG has announced plans to open their US

headquarters in Columbia, South Carolina. Based in Switzerland, PHENOGY is a global leader

in sustainable energy systems with a focus on future-proof and resilient technology battery

storage systems. The decision came following a 6-month discovery period of cities in the

Southeast and ultimately lead to choosing Columbia based on the state’s commitment to

sustainability and partnership opportunities with local institutions of higher learning and industry

leaders.

The company will begin with opening their headquarters in Columbia and focusing on building

their US business development and product teams. The City of Columbia was introduced to the

company during an economic development mission to Switzerland led by city partner, the

Columbia World Affairs Council.

“The founding of PHENOGY INC. in Columbia, South Carolina, marks a significant milestone for

PHENOGY,” stated co-founder and CEO, Peter E. Braun. “Columbia is where the spirit of

innovation, a dynamic tech ecosystem and the relentless pursuit of technological excellence

converge - values that also represent PHENOGY. This underscores our mission to advance

future-proof energy storage systems globally, as well as our commitment to local partners in

communities, industry and research. My special thanks go to Mayor Rickenmann, his top-notch

team and the broader City of Columbia for their continued great support.”

Following the announcement, PHENOGY will participate in a panel on “Clean Energy Tax

Credits for Communities” sharing on best practices in energy storage solutions moderated by

Mayor Daniel Rickenmann at the 93rd US Council of Mayors Conference in Washington, D.C.

Partnerships between the City of Columbia and companies such as PHENOGY are a testament

to the city’s commitment to collaborating with local partners and business recruitment, making

Columbia a beacon of pioneering industries.

“Columbia, South Carolina is the place to be due to our high quality life, innovation pipeline with

six institutions of higher learning, but most importantly, our people,” said Mayor Daniel

Rickenmann. “We were thrilled to share our community with PHENOGY during the discovery

period, and now we are honored to welcome them to the Columbia family as we continue to

grow our alternative energy portfolio and be good stewards of our natural resources.”

A press conference featuring PHENOGY and city leadership will be scheduled for February.
