Central SC Region sees record capital investments halfway through 2023

July 11, 2023

COLUMBIA, S.C. (July 11, 2023 | Central SC Alliance) - A remarkable year has unfolded in the Central SC Region as total capital investment has toppled prior record years. From January to June, companies announced a combined $2,724,140,000 in investments for new facilities or expansion projects, more than double the Region's highest record year of capital investment in 2020 of $1.128 billion. These recent projects have brought 4,901 new jobs along with them for local communities and their skilled workers.

In line with the Region's stable mix of industries, announcements have ranged from distribution facilities and consumer goods production to solar manufacturing, and, perhaps most notably, electric vehicles (EV) products and services. Scout Motors revealed plans in March 2023 for its first production facility to locate in Blythewood, SC, where it will produce all-electric trucks and rugged SUVs. The high-profile $2,000,000,000 and 4,000 new jobs announcement was followed shortly thereafter by Cirba Solutions with a $323,000,000 investment for EV battery recycling.
