Fairfield County Announces New Economic Development Director

Winnsboro, SC— July 26, 2022 — Fairfield County Administrator, Malik Whitaker announced at the July 25 council meeting that M. Ann Broadwater is the County’s new Economic Development Director. Ms. Broadwater has 25+ years of economic development experience in both South Carolina and Virginia. She served as the senior development manager and economic development manager with the South Carolina Department of Commerce and later worked as a senior project manager and director of public and investor relations for the Central South Carolina Alliance. In Virginia, Ms. Broadwater was a project leader and manager of global business development.

“I am excited to have Ann Broadwater join our County leadership team and look forward to her leadership at the new Economic Development Department.,” says Mr. Whitaker.

As Economic Development Director, Ms. Broadwater will oversee the County’s efforts to promote economic development by setting strategic goals for economic growth and prosperity, targeting industries that are a good fit for Fairfield County, and working with existing industries and regional partners to strengthen the County’s economy.

“Broadwater’s experience demonstrates she’s built the relationships and has the knowledge of the players and processes required to be successful in this role. Her macro-level understanding of the economic development opportunities and challenges facing Fairfield County means she can advise our team on emerging and existing economic development issues, support policy and practice improvements, and provide leadership to our excellent and emerging program management staff.”

Ms. Broadwater is 1994 graduate of the Economic Development Institute at Indiana University and the Graduate Basic Economic Developers Course at the Georgia Institute of Technology (1991).
