Midlands Technical College will celebrate the grand opening of $4.5 million in upgrades to a new welding technology center at its Airport campus on Wednesday.

The center adds 19 welding stations to the 45 previously in existence in another on-campus building. The new welding center was formerly known as the Industrial Buliding and originally constructed in 1967, according to a news release from Midlands Tech.

MTC, the state’s third-largest technical school with 8,800 students, embarked on a $50 million modernization campaign in 2015. The push includes a new $30 million, 58,245-square-foot technology center at its Beltine campus.
